21st December 2021
I was invited to join a sunrise swim on the shortest day of the year, which coincided with my Goddaughter’s birthday this week.
Sunrise was a little after 8 a.m. but it didn’t really make much of an appearance! The winds were fairly light, but the waves were quite bouncy at Overcombe in Weymouth. It was fun to be celebrating a birthday and the Winter Solstice though. I put on a couple of swimming hats, which I was glad of as I got wiped out by a couple of big cold salty waves.
There was no time for hesitancy in getting in, you just had to do it! I had checked the weather forecast, which reported light winds, but there was quite a swell, so I was more comfortable being in a group on this occasion. At one point the little dog in our group followed us into the sea, but after getting completely turned upside down, retreated to the beach!
