My first swim at Newton’s Cove this year! Lots of people swim from here as it has easy access to the sea via steps.
Today It was very low tide. The steps are weedy and slippery at the bottom but there is a good handrail to cling to. It is a bit rocky at the bottom, but then it is sandy underfoot. There is a yellow bouy, you can see in this picture, that a lot of swimmers swim out to. This is ideal, as I found it about the right length of time for me to be in the water at this time of year.
I Met Linda and Sam, both members of Castle Cove sea swimmers and The Black Pigs, who swim in Weymouth.
I will certainly swim at Newton’s Cove again, no sandy feet when changing afterwards and it is very sheltered from prevailing westerly winds.
The boat in the picture is working for CEFAS (Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science) who are installing a water pipe to bring seawater into their Laboratory, which is close by.
