May Splash

22nd May 2022

As May’s evenings, of daylight hours are longer, I have been swimming later in the day. It was a remarkably calm and warm evening in Portland Harbour and being a Sunday, there was hardly anyone around, so I felt like I had this natural playground all to myself.

There is a lot of green seaweed on the beaches of the Dorset coast at the moment. The warmer weather gives it the opportunity to grow, much like land plants that blossom in spring. I am still wearing my swim socks as the ground can be quite slimy, so I need to be really cautious of slipping on the weed when I enter the sea.

I love evenings like this, watching the sun gradually getting lower in the sky so it casts a golden glimmer over the calm sea.
