My swim today was at low tide at Sandsfoot Beach. I had to wade out a long way to get into water deep enough to swim in.
Later in the day, Castle Cove Sailing Club built a bonfire on the beach, which ended up being surrounded by water as the tide came in!
I always enjoyed bonfire night as a child, but I remember making a life-size Guy Fawkes effigy to burn on the fire. This tradition doesn’t seem to happen so much now. The annual celebration of building a bonfire to acknowledge the failed 1605 Gunpowder Plot, was affected by the Covid lockdown last year, so it was good to see people being able to hold this historical ritual again. I understand that members of the sailing club arrived to clear up the remains of the fire the following morning.
